The 'Live wax statues' exhibition which has wax statues created by Athula Herath and his son Mahima Herath was opened by  Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa at the National Art Gallery in Colombo on 9th May. President Mahinda Rajapaksa also visited the exhibition.

The exhibition displays 14 wax statues of artistes, national heroes and world renowned figures including wax sculptures of Malini Fonseka, Ravindra Randeniya, W.D. Amaradewa, Victor Rathnayake,
Sunil Edirisinghe, Mahendra Perera, Dr. Carlo Fonseka, Prof. Sunil Ariyaratne, Bruce Lee, Guevara,
King Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe, Ehelepola Kumarihami, Maddumma Bandara and Keppitipola Nilame.

Sri Lanka won the 2014 T20 World Cup after defeating India by six wickets in the final.

Legends Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene were playing their last game of the shorter format and they finished their T20 career on a high, both playing instrumental roles in Sri Lanka's success.

Sangakkara and Thisara Perera finished the match with three boundaries in the 18th over, sealing a landmark victory for their country.

Sangakkara remained unbeaten till the end on 52, while Perera scored 23 off 17 balls, which included three sixes.

Paul Walker, one of the main stars of the popular Fast and Furious  movie, was killed on Saturday in a car accident in Santa Clarita, California. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department says, speed was a factor in the crash.

Walker had returned home for the holidays from the Atlanta set of Fast and Furious 7 and was scheduled to return next week. Fast & Furious 7 is scheduled to be released July 11. Walker also stars in the cop drama Brick Mansions, due Nov. 27.

A statement on Walker's Facebook page says the actor died while attending a charity event for his organization Reach Out Worldwide. He (Walker) was a passenger in a friend's car, in which both lost their lives.

Universal Pictures released a statement on Walker's death.

"All of us at Universal are heartbroken. Paul was truly one of the most beloved and respected members of our studio family for 14 years, and this loss is devastating to us, to everyone involved with the FAST AND FURIOUS films, and to countless fans. We send our deepest and most sincere condolences to Paul's family."

NASA’s Curiosity rover Finds Water in Mars

The rover Curiosity has discovered water in fine-grained soil on the surface of Mars, NASA confirmed it on Thursday 26^th of September. Each cubic foot of Martian soil contains about two points of liquid water, though the molecules are bound to other minerals in the soil. 

Curiosity first landed on the surface of Mars on August 06.2012. Curiosity is the first rover on Mars to carry equipment for gathering and processing samples of rock and soil.

The period July-August is the Esala Perahera season in Sri Lanka. The Sinhalese term ‘perahera’ means a train of musicians, dancers, acrobats and other performers usually accompanied by a number of caparisoned elephants parading the streets in celebration of a religious or secular person or event. 

During this period Esala Peraheras are held in many Buddhist places of worship around the country. Among these the annual Esala Perahera in Kandy occupies the foremost place because the Sri Dalada Maligawa or the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, the palladium of the Sinhalese kingdom that was, is located in that city, which was its last capital.
